This fun half-up hairstyle is a variation of a style we posted last week, the "zig zag woven braid." And although this hairstyle turned out looking nothing like our braid from last week, we utilized the same woven technique (using rope braids) in the top half of the style, ending in a chain braid with the lower half.
This braided hairstyle has an almost princessy, medieval look to it that I just love. I think this would be great for casual occasions such as school, the beach, work, etc... or for more formal events as well. With the right dress, this would be an adorable hairstyle for a school dance or wedding.
Tangled Twists Tie Back Hairstyle, Video Tutorial: (Click here to watch the video directly on YouTube.)
This hairstyle will work best with long (or at least medium length) hair. Straight, wavy, or curly hair should be fine. You may want to use water, gel, or pomade before you braid (if your hair tends to be frizzy or is layered.) This hairstyle is fairly easy to create, but you will need to make sure to twist all of your braids in the same direction initially (as shown in our video) or the final result will not turn out right when you go to make the final chain braid (or licorice braid.)
Supplies needed to recreate this hairstyle:
- Several small, clear elastics (the amount will depend on how many twist braids you end up making.) We used 4.
- Temporary hair ties or clips.
- 1 medium elastic for the final braid.
- Water, gel, pomade (or other product) to help control flyaways.
