This week we are showing a fun new variation of a gorgeous hairstyle that has become quite popular online over the past few years called "waterfall twists into mermaid braid." A few examples of the style we are referring to are linked below:

We both love the original style and thought it would be fun to experiment with it by changing it up and adding a new spin, so this is what we came up with. We're loving this delicate woven look with the subtle draping effect of the criss cross strands. So beautiful! The day we filmed this tutorial, she actually wore this hairstyle to a wedding reception and received so many compliments. I'm sure you will too!
FYI, This hairstyle would be perfect for special occasions such as weddings, prom, homecoming, church, communions, recitals, etc. But, I wouldn't recommend it for sports or high activity. ;)

The one problem with this type of hairstyle is that it is only going to work with certain hair types (mainly long and smooth.) As mentioned in our video, if you have layered hair (or hair prone to frizz or flyaways) you might try braiding the individual strands after creating the waterfall twists and before you weave them, to help hold everything together better. If you hair is on the shorter side, you could try a modified variation with just a few strands on each side, secured up higher on your head.
Supplies needed to recreate this look:
- 3 small, clear elastics
- Pomade, gel, hair wax, or water (to help control flyaways.)
